For my first “Something New” textual piece, I used an AI song lyrics generator to come up with a chorus and first verse of a song with the subject being “Ambition,” in an effort to see what it could write. Here is what it came up with:
Verse 1: I’ve got a fire inside me, burning bright I know there’s more to life than just getting by, Every step I take, every breath I breathe I’m getting closer to the dreams that I believe
Chorus: Ambition drives me crazy, takes me higher I can’t stop chasing my desires, They say it’s impossible, but I won’t back down I’ll keep climbing up until I wear the crown
While I am no lyricist, I was impressed with this result as I can actually imagine them over certain soundtracks. Thinking back to what we discussed during Unit 3 of Humanities 103 regarding the “AI Apocalypse,” I wonder how just how long it will be before artificial intelligence is developed/grows itself to the point it becomes the primary source of songwriting. The generator I used was nothing special, just a random one I found following a quick Google search, so the most powerful ones available surely would blow this out of the water. That said, this relates to my research paper in which I discuss the matter of AI being used as either an alternative for human songwriters/music composers or in conjunction with them, to improve or assist with writing. As of now, it is quite a thought-stimulating topic, one which will only be answered in the future.
